Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum, in St. Leonard, MD, invites the public to Evolution of a Fishery & the Decline of an Estuary: Historical Ecology & Archaeology of the Chesapeake Bay, a lecture by Torben Rick, an archaeologist with DC’s National Museum of Natural History, 7–8:30 p.m. Oct. 26 at the museum’s Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory. Rick will discuss the archaeology and historical ecology of the Chesapeake focusing on the Native American exploitation of oysters, crabs and other Bay resources. These data provide important context and backdrop for the conservation and management of the Bay and other estuaries around the world as well as offer hope for future sustainability. The lecture is free.
