What better way to treasure the Severn River than to learn how to fish – and to do it by kayak? It's a great way to enjoy the gorgeous scenery along the Severn River and to appreciate golden opportunities to observe a wide variety of wildlife. And, there's public access, so everyone can enjoy the river! Interested?
Then please join us Tuesday, Feb 28, for the monthly Severn River Association (SRA) Educational Series meeting at Union Jack's Pub in Parole. Meeting starts at 7 pm.Our guest speaker will be John Veil, an intrepid fisherman who braves local waters year round by kayak. John is also SRA's man on the water providing periodic fishing updates on SRA's Facebook page.
Based on his 25 years of fishing the Severn River and other waterways, John will explain how everyone, from beginners and experts alike, can get out on the water and enjoy the outdoors – in any kind of weather and all year round.
And, he'll describe where he likes to fish, what types of fish can be caught and his many observations of the seasonal changes that occur in fish species. John will also set up an in-house kayak demonstration to explain how to choose a kayak, rig it for fishing, and select which types of fishing tackle to use. Many of these observations are detailed in a book John published last year, Fishing In The Comfort Zone.
John Veil has lived in Annapolis for 25 years. He serves on the Pro Staff team for Native Watercraft kayaks. He has worked in academia, as a state regulator, and as a national laboratory scientist. He is currently the president of a water and energy consulting practice -Veil Environmental, LLC.
