Gasland gets the nod
Gasland, the Josh Fox movie about natural gas drilling in the Marcellus Shale and elsewhere, just made the short list for documentaries that will be considered for the Oscar. The Washington Post reports that the group that chooses docs for the Oscars whittled the list from 100 or so to 14. Only 5 will get the nomination, so Gasland will be competing with well-received films like "Waiting for Superman" and "Client 9" for the win.
Nevertheless, making the first cut could draw more attention to the issues associated with fracking and the nation's energy struggle. I'm looking forward to seeing the film. I tried to get it from Netflix, but couldn't, and I missed it when it was on HBO.
